Hi Jen, I had to read this post twice before commenting, and it took me an hour to compose my response hehehe. This is who I am as an intuitive soul and a reflective reader. 😋
Besides reflecting on "who we used to be," I wondered about what we have been feeding ourselves—soulfully.
*Divine is not a 'woo-woo' word, but more akin to a playful 'woot! woot!' 🤭 I celebrate you, Jen, and how you are becoming through your days of creation. Unfurling takes time, but every spark (dagitab) of enlightenment and change is, in itself, an act of becoming. Not all sparks or acts of creation need to be grand.
By the way, I giggled when I read that line from Mary Oliver's Wild Geese (it haunts me sometimes, in a good way) and the footnote about Dobby (who is always, always with us).
💌 TLDR; this could have been a longhand letter hehe. Anyway, I wish you more January first-ish days throughout 2025. Sharing these two wise insights as I end my comment from Dr. Susan David and Dr. Leo Buscaglia:
"Courage is fear walking." — Dr. Susan David
"To love is to risk not being loved in return. To hope is to risk pain. To try is to risk failure. But risks must be taken because the greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing." — Dr. Leo Buscaglia
Adding also these scribbles I recently wrote in my journal:
• Creation is the language of purpose.
• To create is to risk failure. But creation must take place because it is the only eternal space where we can fully realize our becoming.
May you continue to embrace every version and evolution of yourself despite all that seeks to hinder your becoming. :) Looking forward to reading your next posts!
Hehe hello kapwa-maraming sinasabi! XD Yes, yes, on the divine -- spirituality is also something I'm allowing myself to explore more this year, still in non-traditional ways / in ways that feel more right for me. (More reflections on that in a future post!)
And yes, Susan David fan here, and she's the one who reminds me that there is no growth without discomfort. :) Also appreciate the quote from Leo Buscaglia, thank you!
Ganda rin ng: "Creation must take place because it is the only eternal space where we can fully realize our becoming." -- love it! Here's to another year of becoming and unbecoming. :)
HAHAHA sorry na! 🤭 Fully agree with that bit: "There's no growth without discomfort" c/o Ninang Susan! Noted po with thanks. 📝
Here's to another year of pagwasak para sa pagbuo—and vice versa hehe. Looking forward to your next post about the nontraditional ways of living, creating, or perhaps both. Regardless of the approach, I support you all the way! :)
Wow, sarap basahin, end of day ng January 1 (it was a whirlwind for me hahaha more out there than inside - mas labas, kaysa sa loob, na mas sanay ako).
Salamat sa mga salita, Jen! At sa maganda at tagos sa loob na tula. Parang ang ganda sambitin! I love it. It resonates with me deeply. My word for the year in 2024 was Matibay, coincidentally. This 2025 is about being brave. I started 2025, awake, pacifying my dog and watching the fireworks outside (contrary to my childhood memory of hiding). I was smiling at myself for doing it.
Also, I've always thought of you as creative! Hehe not sure if you're familiar with the term "conscious creative" - I vaguely remember the first time I met you but I knew you were one to start with, with Muni-muni days pa. Your writing motivates me to write too. Thank you for being vulnerable and open!
Hi Raquel! I appreciate the message. :) And yes, our themes / words align for 2024...and even 2025! I think bravery involves the courage to be one's authentic self, and we cannot be authentic to ourselves and to others without also having the courage to sometimes stand alone.
And yes, conscious creative / cultural creative -- it's a term I used for folks we gathered at Muni in the early days, so yes, I do acknowledge the creative in me to a certain extent, but "artist" is really a stretch! Haha. But let us see what emerges on the rest of our shared journey.

I am privileged to witness your journey in the past couple of years and now in TAHI. <3 We should share a drink or a meal at some point. :-)
Privileged to be there too. :) It's funny how I'm sharing the things I'm sharing here too when I think about some of our earlier conversations.
