Flowing with the Daluyan circle for space holders on August 9
An offering for existing and future space holders, in honor of all who held space for me and all the communities we hope to hold space for.
Finally, this seed I've been nurturing for nearly two years now is breaking ground and seeing the sunlight. Been running small experiments of versions of this for a while now, and here we are again, prototyping, playing, putting not-so-rough drafts out in the world. 😸
I also garnish this post with affirmations from nature. 🌱 I hope you enjoy the breather, and plant one of those seeds of affirmation for yourself today.
Pamukaw-sigla / The source of inspiration
I’ve been fermenting, contemplating for a while now on what my personal yet public offering to the world might be, given the breadth of learning and networks I’ve gained in the past 13+ years of more intentional personal growth, and I want to offer something that’s different from existing programs out there, while also integrating some of the best practices and insights I’ve learned in my facilitation journey.
And there is SO MUCH. There is a rich lineage of learning and practice that I’ve gained from Expressive Arts Facilitation with The Arts and Health Institute by Magis Creatives, Ecosystem Leadership, Awareness-based Systems Change and Social Arts with Presencing Institute, Human-Centered Coaching with Haraya Coaching, Flow Facilitation with Good Grief Network, and more. All these facilitators and space holders have inspired me through the years, and that inspiration is not for me to hold on my own.
I hoped to offer something intentionally designed for the people I want to help grow (values-led space holders, community-builders), accessible (especially for those who seek learning and community without necessarily wanting a certification), intimate (nothing more than 20 people), and sustained (hopes to continue connection beyond a one-day workshop).
I also hoped to offer something that attempted to integrate lessons from different disciplines and interests ranging from positive psychology, sikolohiyang Pilipino, expressive arts facilitation, social arts-based research, regenerative leadership, systems thinking, coaching, culture-building, somatics, ecology, economics, and more.
Although it will not cover the depth of each of those fields, I want to surface the interconnectedness of all these, and the beauty of transdisciplinary approaches to facilitation, research, art and life in general.
And because I’m offering bite-sized offerings in more financially accessible chunks, I hope it gives you more spaciousness to digest the experience — para namnamin at in-inin.
Ating simula / Where we begin
As with Ugnayan Cards, gatherings I put together, and most things I design and create, I begin with questions:
How might I develop my own capacity to nurture spaces for care, connection and creativity?
What is my deeper intention with my practice of facilitation and community-/culture-building?
What foundational practices can help me foster courage and safety with those I hold space for and with?
What can help bring me more joy, ease, and confidence in holding space for and with my kapwa?
Tungkol sa Daluyan / About Daluyan
This Daluyan circle by @pagbubuo was made to support "space holders" of all kinds when we come together to:
Create a community for collective care for and with those who hold space for their own communities
Learn how to nurture spaces for connection and creativity in groups
Daluyan translates to medium, channel, or conduit, which could refer to ourselves as facilitators (or in Tagalog, bilang tagapagpadaloy), or the pathways for connection, creative flow, energy, clarity and insight that we are able to co-create with our kapwa in the spaces we hold.
The art and science of facilitation begins with pakikipagkapwa and creating connection – with the self as a tagapagpadaloy, with our participants or kapwa, with our tools or resources, and with our physical space or environment.
Sadya ng Pagtitipon / Purpose of the Gathering
Our time together aims to help you:
Ground your facilitation practice in consciousness and intention
Cultivate your skills in mindful and deep listening
Harvest experiential learning on facilitation, with the help of @ugnayancards
Grow your confidence in holding space with emergence and flow
Para kanino / Who this is for
This space is intended for a small group of ten (10) space holders – whether you’re a facilitator, community- or culture-builder, educator, counselor, researcher, artist, team leader, entrepreneur, or people development practitioner.
